2025 was widely referred to as the Year of Agentic AI. It’s been a classic hype cycle for any new technology, and much has been learned…to say the least. However, many think agentic AI is about a quick prompt to develop a python-based agent that talks to an LLM. Turns out, it's much more complex and getting to production is really about addressing a multitude of risks.
Thousands of enterprises and newly minted Chief AI Officers remain excited by the promise of agentic AI, but none of them are going to production unless they trust the system. Trust is established, not when the results are perfect, but when the risks are thoroughly addressed.
As we transition from simple LLM wrapper agents to autonomous agentic systems, the risk landscape shifts from simple input/output validation to include complex distributed systems challenges. Moving toward production requires moving past the "hype" and addressing agentic AI risk, which is the intersection of well-understood systems risk and less-understood randomness risk.
